Modern Bathroom

Many Florida homes built in the 1970’s, at least those built in characteristic cookie cutter neighborhoods, feature Master Bedroom setups that leave much to be desired. Tiny bathrooms with single sinks and toilets practically encroaching on showers almost too small for a grown adult to use—like the one shown below—were not rare. Neither was the lack of a proper closet, much less one you could walk into. Before:018

So what is one to do when faced with the desire to rejuvenate a space designed forty or so years ago?

Rearrange to optimize the most space! Which means using every nook and cranny you can find in the floorplan to manage what the new design requires.

Thus was the challenge we faced when tasked with our latest project. To finagle a modernized master bathroom with two sinks as well as a walk-in closet from a space that previously held only one rather small bathroom and no closet.

You can see in the pictures below how much care was taken to ensure all needs were met.

A modernization of the finishes was also in order as per the wishes of the client, which was done to so much detail that even the previously awkward window was given feature detailing. Incorporating modern touches such as the mainly neutral color scheme seen in the white quartz countertops and dark brown cabinets with touches of earthy greens in the stone shower floor and mosaics around the window ensured a full face-lift effect for our bathroom from dark and dingy to almost spa-like. Two full vanity sets were achieved through the rearrangement, as was a much larger master shower which features a lowered threshold and shower bench to accommodate the client’s needs.2016-01-13 11.53.21

But let’s not get too caught up with the bathroom because it isn’t even the whole of it. We managed to give the client the walk-in closet she’d been yearning for along with her wonderfully re-designed bathroom by using space in the master bedroom that was being wholly misused prior to the project.
