When our client asked us to remodel their kitchen, we started the remodel with the goal of updating and expanding the space. Our client wanted the kitchen to serve as an entertainment area, which meant adding more seating and bigger clearances. They also wanted to increase storage without making the space feel cluttered, which we achieved with the addition of the pantry. Light colored walls were a must to keep the kitchen feeling open against the grey cabinets. Similarly, the counter tops and back splash were chosen in a light color to balance the cabinets out. The result was a fresh, updated kitchen design.

The original kitchen was a myriad of dark surfaces. Dark counter tops, dark wooden cabinets, and dark olive walls all made the space feel confined.

The remodeled kitchen is anything but, light, open and inviting – the perfect place to entertain.

What a difference just a few key design decisions made for this kitchen. Even with the steel grey cabinets, this kitchen looks bigger, more open. The top cabinets were removed from the far wall, no longer necessary thanks to the detached pantry, constructed to frame the refrigerator. They instead gave way to the beautiful accent border of hexagonal tiles and the two simple and rustic wood shelves.

The island was turned ninety degrees and elongated, allowing for bigger clearance in a space meant for family meal prep, with plenty of room for four place settings. A booth was added under the largest of the windows, both for added storage, and for entertaining purposes. The carefully selected wooden stools reflect the slightly rustic effect of the floating shelves, adding an extra bit of interest for the eye to catch onto as it travels around the room.
